The Brunell U18A team travelled to Dublin on Saturday 8th September 2012 to take part in the Laura Brennan Memorial Tournament hosted by Killester Basketball Club and played in St.Fintans,Sutton. The first game of the day saw Brunell take on Templeogue at 10am and win the game on a scoreline of 47 to 28. The second game of the day was against Drimnagh which was a very tough affair with Brunell winning by 15 points (38-23). The game of the day took place next with Brunell taking on a very strong DCU Mercy team after a titanic battle Brunell came out winners by a score of 50 to 41. The last game of the day saw Brunell take on Carrig na Bhfear at 5pm and winning on a scoreline of 54-22. This left Brunell as winners of Pool A and with a semi-final against our neighbours Glanmire which was played on Sunday 9th September at 10.30am in St.Fintans with Brunell winning on a scoreline of 71-51. After DCU Mercy staged a late comeback in their semi-final against Wildcats, this set up a repeat of the earlier pool game between Brunell and DCU. The final saw some superb basketball played by both sides, Brunell got off to a great start and never looked back winning on a scoreline of 54 to 37. On behalf of brunell basketball we would like to thank Killester Basketball Club especially Jonathan Grennell, Aisling O'Neill, The Brennan Family for a fantastic tournament, and we look forward to returning next year to defend our title.
